Books I'm likin' and some I'm not

Whaaaat! An Ultimate Nullifier post!
Yes, true believers, you're not dreaming or in some mad parallel universe, you can't keep a good blog down.

Having said that, I'm kinda disappointed with most of what I've been picking up lately. So, without further ado, some highs and lows.

Hit Titles

Scarlett - Only 2 issues in, I'm really liking this book by Bendis and the dude who drew Alias(Jessica Jones Alias, not Sydney Bristow) The main character, who is not from GIJoe, is a badass chick who has a hate on for crooked cops. Great art, and she talks to the reader!

Avengers Academy - This is a well written and drawn title featuring a group of young powered indiviuals who were (mostly) tortured by Norman Osborn during his reign of terror. The team has been assembled because they are the most likely candidates to go bad - which they find out in issue 1.

Kick Ass 2 - Romita's style works here and it looks like this will be as awesome as the last series. Not sure if this has been optioned for movie yet...

Secret Avengers - This is Steve Rodger's title and I like it. I'm not a huge Deadoato(sp) fan, but I like the story and the cast.

X-Men - Mutants vs. Vampires - not too bad. Good art, stroy is not too bad.

Miss Titles

Mighty Avengers - I think Romita needs to stop now. He's a young guy, so his ridiculous drop in art quality can only be attributed to greed/laziness/blow. I use to really like his style, but now it hurts my eyes. He's been on the down for quite a while now, but this is low.

Thor - boring / don't like the art

Cap - hate the back-up story and the Cap art is not the greatest. Make the Cap story longer!

That's all for now, how about you?

  1. The Devil alerted me to an actual Ultimate Nullifier post. He thought it was me, but I haven't been here in ages, despite my good intentions to do so. I suck! So let's rectify that with a post in a bit...

    But now, let's see here:

Scarlett - meh-ville for my tastes. Gave it a serious flip through, but put it down.

Avengers Academy - It's dumb, but I won't pick it up because of that red fleshy-lookin' guy. The months of "I am an Avenger" ads with him in it have left me scarred.

Kick Ass 2 - I like this just fine. The covers and titles are bit much. I'm not 12. As to the art, Romita does the rough pencils only for this. The other dude tightens it up for him, so it isn't even really a Romita book artwise. Romita is trying to do too much at once.

Secret Avengers - Never stepped to it. Secret warriors left a bad taste in my mouth and this has "Secret" in the title. (maybe I am 12)

    X-Men - I can't deal with the amount of X books. It's too daunting.

Mighty Avengers - Well, it got better, and I like Kang. The art is waaaay rushed. He was crankin' these during Kick Ass the film and the press trips so apparently suffers. But in my mind, this is goofy 70s type comics. Not so grim and gritty, which I'm liking. But I can see how it doesn't feel like an Avengers title. It's an abrupt change in direction.

Thor _ dropped it when the cover variant had him listening to an ipod. Yawnsville. Verily.

Cap - Jesus please destroy the Nomad back-up. The art suffered or a wee bit, but I'm settling into this weird 70s style stuff. Sin is back, so I'm ok with it now. But there was a point, just after he killed crazy cap on the dam that I was like - f this shit.

    Yay! Thanks for positng!
